Game Jam 2013- Live Blog Part Five: Finishing touches
After a full four hours of sleep this morning, I sleepily stumbled around to get an update from each group. The clock is ticking and everyone is scrambling to put the finishing touches on their games, and plan their presentations.
Gizmaul has finished all of their art and play mechanics. They sent their fearless leader Jon off to the store to print out all of the cards. The twins Gregory and Brenden will be demonstrating for an instructional video later this afternoon. Two of the groups members, Heather and Ryan, had to leave early, and one member, Allen, had to leave for all of last night and this morning, but Gizmaul’s group will be present in some combination for the game demonstration.
Bay Defense, the one-man undertaking, is nearly finished. I’ve had the opportunity to playtest and the changes in the game that have happened even in the last few hours are great! Bay Defense is very easy at first, but it gets much harder over time…
Turned Out is expecting to finish right on schedule. There’s plenty of great art and animation for eye candy, and with a gravity-twisting platformer style of gameplay, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Escape assures me that they’re “done,” in air quotes. While I’ve finally met all four members of the group, only two of them are here right now. Check out this video preview of the game:
David Whatley assures me that Three Blind Slimes is the “greatest Game Jam game ever in the history of Game Jams.” He really does try to be humble.
According to David, this three-player teamwork puzzle game has yet to be beaten, even by the developers! The programmers were finalizing the camera work, the artist was finishing up a snazzy logo, and the Greatest Game Jam Game is nearly finished.
The Geocachers are also hard at work, putting the final touches on their games. Three full levels of geocaching goodness have been completed, with another two scheduled to be finished in time for the deadline. I can’t wait to see the game played so I can finally understand what all of this geocaching craze is about!
Throne for a Loop is still going strong, with five full levels completely finished and the six being completed within the next few hours. The art is beautiful, the levels are elaborate, the music is awesome…this game is going to be great!
That our update! Stay tuned for the demonstrations. The 5:30pm deadline is fast approaching!
