Game Recap: Throne for a Loop
Throne for a Loop is live and playable on Kongregate! Click here!
Throne for a loop is a pixelated scroller game created by a group of miscreants who are far and away the biggest goofballs of the Game Jam. Even after playing a game of Chubby Bunny…
…and a midnight game of Cards Against Humanity, they still found the time to create a wonderfully original platform scroller featuring a princess who is running from a hero who is trying to ‘rescue’ her. Looks like this princess can handle her own rescuing… During development, they showed off a quick level demo:
This game was written in Flixel. The game lacked a sound engineer, but one member stepped up to write original music in Fruity Loops, an experience he described as “incredibly stressful.” Throne for a Loop’s team also boasts the youngest Jammer at 15. While there were two younger that came and went, Max was the youngest jammer there for the whole weekend. This team interpreted ‘perspective’ as a change in story perspective, as the knight is killing all of the princess’ dragon friends and she wants to be left alone. What a nice change from the ‘damsel in distress’ trope!
The game gets difficult very quickly, and even the developers couldn’t complete the game during the demo:
