Game Recap: Geocache Games
The Geocachers were the largest group by far. On Friday night, the mob gathered in the back of Simutronics, headed up by Elonka, a Simutronics employee and our fearless Game Jam Organizer. After developing a basic framework for a Geocaching-powered game, they split into two groups. After developing their ideas further, they split into three, then four groups, and by the end had come back together into one.
At any given moment, up to 90% of the Geocachers would be out and about, gathering data and hiding clues and secrets around St. Louis.
At last count, there’s five successfully finished GeoCaching games, with two more planning out but not fully developed. The games are all separate, with different characters, locations, and content, but they’re all powered with Geocaching and a service called Wherigo.
Check them all out here:
Meet Me In 1904 takes place in Forest Park during the St Louis World’s Fair, and Ch-ch-chains takes place on the local Chain of Rocks Bridge in present day. Pika’s Treasure hunt is a bird-themed adventure that takes place in the World Bird Sanctuary and is a rework of a game created by jammer Jen Patton way back when. Other adventures include downtown Kirksville, finding an escaped cobra in the St Louis Zoo, discovering the slightly fictionalized history of the Saint Louis mob, and working with Mulder over the phone on an X-Files themed adventure set in Tallahassee.
Geocachers made up a large proportion of the jammers. Here they are distinguishing themselves… what a crowd!
