Prepare Yourself
It looks like we’re going to have a pretty good turnout for this thing! We might even need to expand beyond our one room. That’s outstanding!
I’ll put up another post with short term preparation suggestions later, but with exactly a week left to go there are a few things you might want do in preparation:
- If you won’t be able to make it to the entire event or plan on being late, please let me know. If a majority of the participants won’t be able to make it until well after 5:00PM on Friday we may push the start and end times back by an hour.
NOTE: An overwhelming number of participants have responded that they can make 5:00 PM on Friday, so 5:00 PM it is! Thanks everyone! - Prior to arriving, you may want to create an account on the Global Game Jam site. Everyone who makes a game will need to have an account on that site by 11:00 AM on Saturday, so creating an account now will be one less thing to slow you down during the actual event. If you have any problems creating an account, please email wes atmark superwes period com and let me know.
- If you can see yourself wanting to use a technology you’re not familiar with or wanting to try something new, do yourself a favor and do some short experiments before you get here. You don’t want to devote yourself to a certain technology and have things fall apart in the end.
- Get an idea of where the event is taking place. We’re on the Webster University Campus in room 202 of Sverdrup Hall. The address is 8300 Big Bend Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63119, and there’s a useful campus map available at http://www.webster.edu/campusmap/ that can help you understand the campus grounds. Be sure to check back closer to the event for more detailed directions and instructions on where to park.
- If you have a laptop, please get everything you think you might need loaded onto it and be prepared to bring it. We’ve got a computer lab with 18 computers that have Game Maker and UDK on them, but those may go fast.
- If you haven’t already done so, make sure you register.
- Tell a friend! You’ll definitely meet lots of new people at the event, but the more the merrier!
