The Jam Approaches!
Hello everybody!
The game jam is fast approaching and I, for one, am pumped. It’s our first one ever and we’ve got a 9 person battalion engaging in our weekend of game building bliss.
You may be asking yourself the following questions, which is precisely what I am here for.
1) Where is the WorldKi office?
Here‘s a google map of it. Click the directions button and get your caravaning route planned.
You go into the door up the stairs from to Avis, then go up the stairs and it’s the door on the left that says WORLDKI on it. Look at this picture!
2) BUT WHERE WILL I PARK!?
There are parking spots abound in Clayton. You can park wherever you feel like, just not on pedestrians.
3) What will I EAT!?
Fear not. We will get some pizza and beverages for Saturday, and then we can decide on Sunday if we want pizza, jimmy johns, or whathaveyou. Since it’s a tight group we’ll get this worked out as we go. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around Clayton where you can go to grab lunch on Saturday and Sunday, or dinner on Friday if you so choose. I, personally, will likely bring a brown bag full of all kinds of delicious foods from home. Whatever you fancy. Just remember that WorldKi is giving us dinner on both Saturday and Sunday (WOOOO!).
4) I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING.
That’s okay. Check up on Wes’ great article in the blog about a bunch of different, easy to use resources for building games. We’ll build teams on Friday night and do whatever must be done to create a video game by Sunday night. Experience is the greatest teacher, as they say.
5) What is the THEME?!
I will not tell you until tomorrow night. I’m so good at keeping secrets that I don’t even remember what it is, so don’t go and try to pry it out of me.
I will, however, tell you what the elements are. There are 3 elements, and you must include at least one in your game. You are free to interpret them and bend them to your will.
Six
Knots
Backfire
6) Preparation is key
The last thing I will ask of you is to bring whatever things you need to do your work, be it art, programming, or anything else, and have it ready to roll the moment you walk in the door. We have only 24 hours, and we mustn’t dally with the installation or preparation of things. We have a scanner in the office, so hand drawn artwork can be scanned and emailed all over the place.
I hope your weeks are awesome, and you’re all prepared for them to get so awesome that there may be explosions.
Best,
Samuel ‘Sqm’ Coster
